So nice to meet you! My name is Alison Brook and I am a singer/songwriter from Oregon. I live in Portland with my two squirrel-like dogs, Maddy and Rooney, and my husband John. I love to watercolor, keep my house freakishly neat, and I've been known to dress my dogs up in little outfits (and I'm proud to admit it even though I know I'm getting so many eye rolls right now). You can get to know me better through my blog, youtube, and of course through my music.
"He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what He has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord." (Psalm 40:3)
Alison's first taste of music came at an early age, growing up as the daughter of a folk singer/songwriter. Her official music education began while attending University where she studied music, classical voice, and began to write original music in her free time.
Upon graduation, she completed a successful Kickstarter campaign which funded The Heart of the Matter which she released in 2014. With influences from a folk-drenched upbringing, classical voice studies, and an early love for hip-hop and r&b, Alison developed her own eclectic folk sound.
The Heart of the Matter, was penned as she chronicled life experience through song. Representing the songwriters lowest valleys and highest peaks—songs about depression juxtaposed with songs of praise—the album turns the listener to hope in Jesus. Working with Philadelphia-based producer Delon Lawrence, the album showcases the best of a modern folk/pop playlist, borrowing from the sounds of Americana, R&B, and rap.
Alison's most recent project, Hymns for the Wanderer, explores 4 classic hymns by adding new melodic hooks and fresh layers. This EP the musical sequel to the song Wanderer, a favorite track off of The Heart of the Matter. The EP also encompasses a hearty DIY spirit; crafted, produced, and recorded in her own cozy home studio.
